Is it multiplayer right now?

No. The current Steam feature list marks Pax Autocratica as Single-player and does not list online multiplayer, online co-op or local co-op. When the store page says you fight alongside troops, those troops are AI-controlled soldiers inside the solo campaign.

What did the developer say about co-op?

The Steam Early Access Q&A says co-op is one of the major features Multiverse hopes to develop during Early Access. The answer is important because it is an official development direction, but it does not promise a launch date, final player count or cross-platform support.

Community posts ask about four-player co-op and whether it would arrive before 1.0. Those posts explain why the question is popular, yet they should not be rewritten as a shipping plan. This wiki labels them as community demand, while the roadmap page sticks to the official wording.

AI troops versus co-op partners

The solo combat loop already expects you to command units, capture weakened enemies and manage soldiers between expeditions. That is why screenshots or trailers showing several characters do not demonstrate multiplayer. A real co-op announcement would need to specify how another player joins, what progress is shared and whether the colony is hosted or synchronized.

Until those details appear in a current Steam news post or a Multiverse announcement, plan around a single-player purchase. Check the Steam listing again after updates; the category and feature badges are the fastest reliable signal.
